Rhine Valley

The Rhine Valley is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and historical allure. The majestic Rhine River winds its way through the valley, bordered by a series of stunning castles and fortresses perched atop steep cliffs.  The Rhine Gorge is best experienced with a rental car, a private driver/guide, or a sightseeing river cruise from Frankfurt. It's about an hour and a half's drive to reach the Rhine Gorge from Frankfurt.

Heidelberg

Heidelberg is a picturesque city along the Neckar river.  The altstadt features cobblestone streets and quaint cafes, with the famous Heidelberg Castle overlooking town. There are trains to the main station and into the altstadt that take about an hour and a half. The drive from Frankfurt is a little over an hour.


Eltville

Eltville is a picturesque town along the banks of the Rhine River in the renowned wine-producing region of the Rheingau. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls through the cobblestone streets, stopping to admire the town's beautiful rose gardens and quaint half-timbered houses. Eltville is conveniently accessible, with a driving time of approximately 45 minutes. Alternatively, the train journey takes about an hour.

The Saalburg

The Saalburg, located near Bad Homburg in Germany, is a fascinating reconstruction of a Roman fort that once protected the northern boundary of the Roman Empire. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Saalburg offers visitors a chance to step back in time and explore ancient Roman life through its well-preserved walls, barracks, and a museum filled with artifacts. Surrounded by the lush greenery of the Taunus mountains, it's a perfect blend of history and nature. If you're traveling from Frankfurt, the Saalburg is approximately a 30-minute drive. Alternatively, you can take a train to Bad Homburg station, which takes about 20 minutes, and then a short bus ride or taxi to the site.

Idstein

Idstein is  known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and scenic landscapes. Nestled in the Taunus Mountains, Idstein boasts a rich history, evident in its iconic Hexenturm, or Witch's Tower, and the beautiful half-timbered houses lining the streets. By car, it takes approximately 40 minutes to drive from Frankfurt. The train journey from Frankfurt to Idstein takes around 50 minutes, offering a relaxing and picturesque ride through the countryside.

Bamberg

Bamberg, a picturesque city in Bavaria, is renowned for its well-preserved medieval architecture and charming old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can explore the stunning Bamberg Cathedral, the enchanting Old Town Hall perched on an island in the Regnitz River, and the vibrant Little Venice area with its colorful fishermen's houses. Bamberg is also famous for its unique smoked beer, known as Rauchbier, which can be savored in one of its many traditional breweries. From Frankfurt, Bamberg is approximately a 2.5 to 3-hour journey by train.

Rudesheim

Rüdesheim am Rhein is famous for its picturesque vineyards and rich history. This enchanting destination, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers visitors a blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty. Travelers from Frankfurt can easily reach Rüdesheim by train, with a journey time of about an hour and a half, providing a scenic route along the Rhine River.  By car, it takes about an hour.

Bernkastel

Bernkastel is a charming wine town in the Moselle river valley, with cobblestone streets and medieval architecture.

Traveling from Frankfurt to Bernkastel is convenient; a scenic drive of approximately two hours via the A3 and A1 highways will lead you through breathtaking landscapes.

Gelnhausen

Gelnhausen is a charming town nestled in the heart of Germany's Hesse region, renowned for its rich medieval history and picturesque architecture. Visitors can explore the beautiful half-timbered houses, the Romanesque Marienkirche, and the Kaiserpfalz, a stunning imperial palace ruin. From Frankfurt regular train service takes approximately 40 minutes, making it an ideal day trip for those seeking to immerse themselves in the enchanting history and scenic beauty of this quaint German town.
