Best day trips from Barcelona

Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest of Spain's Balearic islands. It is a 5 hour ferry ride from Barcelona to the island. I definitely recommend taking some time out of your trip to spend a night on the island because there is so much to explore!  It offers crystal clear waters and many beautiful villages.

Montserrat

Montserrat is a stunning mountain range near Barcelona, Spain, famous for its unique rock formations, breathtaking views, and the iconic Montserrat Monastery. It is about 1.5 hours from Barcelona by train. Once you are in the main town you can choose to take a cable car to get higher up into the mountain, where the views are incredible.

Menorca

Menorca is another one of Spain's Balearic islands. The island offers pristine beaches, tranquil coves, and charming coastal towns. You can get here by ferry, which will take between 3.5 to 9 hours depending on the speed type you choose. However if you wanted to visit both Menorca and Mallorca it is an easy 1 hour ferry to hop islands.

Blanes

Blanes is a town is nestled on the coastline, offering a Mediterranean escape from the city. You can travel by train or by car to get to Blanes. By car it is about a 2 hour drive and by train it would take about and hour and 20 minutes. I definitely recommend hiring a drover or renting a car because the drive along the coast is breathtaking.

Costa Brava

Costa Brava is the coastal region of Catalonia that starts at the town Blanes and stretches to the French Boarder. Costa Brava includes a few of the towns on this list including Tossa de Mar and Cadaqués. However i strongly recommend taking a day to rent a car and drive along to coast, and even explore some of the smaller villages and hidden coves.

Girona

Girona is known for well-preserved medieval architecture including it's Gothic cathedral. This city is the perfect destination for foodies because of its authentic cuisine. There is a direct train from Barcelona that departs regularly and takes 40 minutes to arrive. If you choose to travel by car it takes an hour and a half.

Tossa de Mar

Tossa de Mar is a charming coastal known with medieval walls and towers surrounding Vila Vella, the old town. You can travel by bus or by car, both taking about an hour. We recommend utilizing the services of a local driver/guide for the most authentic and immersive experience.

Begur

Begur is a municipality that is an hour and 40 minute drive from Barcelona. While there is no direct train we definitely recommend hiring a driver or renting a car to explore this gorgeous village.  It offers several beachfront resorts, and popular beaches like Sa Tuna and Aiguabalva.

Cadaqués

Cadaqués is found along Costa Brava nestled in a bay on the Cap de Creus peninsula. It's a two hour drive from Barcelona. You can also travel by bus or by train that takes around 2 hours and 40 minutes. Other then its crystal clear beaches and stunning streets, Cadaqués has a significant history in art.
